EHS Sourcing Program

Pfizer's commitment to effective and responsible environment, health and safety (EHS) management goes beyond our facilities' boundaries. We use environmental, health, and safety performance criteria to assess and select contract manufacturers, key Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) suppliers, contract research and development laboratories (including clinical research organizations), and contract product distribution facilities ("logistics centers").

Pfizer is also committed to helping our contract manufacturers and key suppliers in the developing world improve their EHS competencies through training workshops and coaching sessions. In short, our program does well by doing good: we help to elevate the EHS performance of our selected contractors, which benefits their workers and communities while at the same time protecting Pfizer against business interruption that could impact our supply chain and delivery of medicines.

Goals and Commitments:

• To adhere to internal standards for the engagement of contract manufacturers and researchers, assuring they have sufficient resources and systems to avoid or mitigate potential EHS impacts arising from the activities conducted on Pfizer's behalf.
• To conduct EHS assessments for contract manufacturers and researchers (CMRs), key suppliers, and logistic centers prior to outsourcing activities.
• To perform subsequent EHS supplier reviews on a routine basis assuring performance has been maintained and is acceptable.
• To improve the EHS competencies of our contract manufacturers and key suppliers through our training and coaching.
• To engage with other pharmaceutical companies to help our suppliers implement the Pharmaceutical Industry Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management.
• To integrate EHS criteria into our decision-making for the purchase of goods and services.

Programs and Actions:

• EHS Supplier Review Program: Conducting EHS assessments of our CMRs.
• Training and Coaching: Building the EHS competency of our key suppliers.
• Goods and Services: Examining categories of goods and services and identifying opportunities for green purchasing.
• Supplier Carbon Footprint: Working with our suppliers to better understand scope 3 GHG emissions (those indirect emissions occurring from sources not owned or controlled by the company).
