Assessment and Improvement

Pfizer is committed to using suppliers with acceptable performance in EHS and labor practices. Assessments help Pfizer manage business continuity, liability and reputation risks, while ensuring supply decisions align with company values. EHS and labor assessments are conducted for new suppliers meeting certain criteria. Evaluations are repeated periodically. Onsite assessment of EHS and labor practices focuses on suppliers that provide materials and services specific to the pharmaceutical industry — notably research and development, production of active ingredients and finished-dosage-form medicines.

To safeguard against potential business interruption, key outsourced logistics centers are part of the assessment program. Currently, suppliers that provide basic commodities and services are not within the program. We believe that our approach is among the most comprehensive and sophisticated of its type in the research-based pharmaceutical industry.

The need to complete an onsite assessment is driven by several factors:

  • Location, type and scale of manufacturing
  • Product hazard characteristics
  • Supply criticality
